About Cafe Du Monde

The Original Cafe Du Monde Coffee Stand was established in 1862 in the New Orleans French Market. The Original Cafe Du Monde is a traditional coffee shop. Its menu consists of dark roasted Coffee and Chicory, Beignets, White and Chocolate Milk, and fresh squeezed Orange Juice. The coffee is served Black or Au Lait. Au Lait means that it is mixed half and half with hot milk. Beignets are square French - style doughnuts, lavishly covered with powdered sugar. In 1988 Iced Coffee was introduced to the cafe. Soft drinks also made their debut that year. The Cafe Du Monde Coffee Stand is owned by the Fernandez family. Hubert Fernandez bought the Coffee Stand in May 1942 from Fred Koeniger. At that time Mr. Fernandez owned the Fernandez Wine Cellar. In 1972, The Fernandez family closed the Wine Cellar in order to devote their energies to the Cafe Du Monde.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Cafe Du Monde Beignet Mix feel like a premium breakfast option?

It combines a simple home preparation method with the heritage of a well-known New Orleans cafe established in 1862. The result feels like a destination-inspired treat rather than an everyday pancake or waffle mix.

Does this mix use the same beignet recipe associated with Cafe Du Monde coffee stands?

Yes. The mix uses the Cafe Du Monde beignet mix found at its New Orleans coffee stands, connecting the home breakfast experience with a recognized local tradition.

Is the 56-ounce two-pack better for an elegant large gathering?

Yes. The two-pack provides 56 ounces of mix for brunches, holiday breakfast tables, and home catering. It allows guests to enjoy freshly fried beignets as part of a more elaborate meal.

Can I create an upscale brunch without making beignet dough from scratch?

Yes. The dough base requires only 2 cups of mix and 7 fluid ounces of water. After shaping and frying the dough, serve the beignets with powdered sugar and coffee, milk, or cafe au lait for an elevated presentation.

Is Cafe Du Monde Beignet Mix a good fit for a refined breakfast table?

Yes. Fresh, puffy, golden beignets dusted with powdered sugar bring a bakery-style element to brunch. Pairing them with coffee or cafe au lait helps create a polished, leisurely breakfast spread.

Am I buying a basic pancake mix or a distinctive New Orleans specialty?

You are buying a New Orleans beignet mix with a simple water-based preparation method. It is intended to be rolled, cut into approximately 2.25-inch squares, and fried until puffy and golden, which produces a result distinct from ordinary breakfast mixes.

Is this mix suitable for someone who values authentic regional food?

Yes. It is tied to Cafe Du Monde, a New Orleans landmark with a history dating to 1862. The brand heritage and connection to the city's coffee stands make it a meaningful choice for a New Orleans-inspired home experience.

How does the electric skillet method compare with deep-frying in a fryer?

Both methods are compatible with the mix, but an electric skillet is the preferred method. It offers convenient at-home frying with less equipment than a dedicated fryer while still producing beignets that puff and turn golden at 370 degrees Fahrenheit.

Does the simple recipe reduce the quality of the finished beignets?

No. The simplified dough preparation is a convenience feature, not a limitation on the finished recipe. Once the dough is mixed, shaped, and fried correctly, it is designed to create fresh beignets with a rich, golden appearance.

How does this compare with buying fresh beignets from a bakery?

Buying fresh from a bakery provides a ready-to-eat option, while this mix lets you fry beignets immediately before serving at home. For a premium experience, the mix offers more participation, flexibility, and freshness.

How does this compare with a specialty croissant or Danish pastry mix?

A croissant or Danish mix may be designed for different shapes and flavor profiles, while this product is formulated specifically for New Orleans-style beignets. The simple recipe and square cutting method make it a more focused choice.

Is the effort involved in making these beignets suitable for a special occasion?

Yes. The process is approachable: mix the dough with water, shape the pieces, and fry them fresh. Serving them warm with powdered sugar and coffee adds a celebratory touch to brunch, holidays, or a relaxed weekend breakfast.

Could heat or storage issues affect the quality of this gift purchase?

The mix must be refrigerated after opening, so it should be stored in a cool, controlled environment. Keep the package sealed before use, and follow the included preparation and frying directions for the best result.

How do I make Cafe Du Monde beignets from scratch with the mix?

Combine 2 cups of the mix with 7 fluid ounces of water to make the dough. Follow the package directions for resting, then roll the dough to about 1/4-inch thickness, cut it into approximately 2.25-inch squares, and fry at 370 degrees Fahrenheit until puffy and golden.

What is the best way to fry beignets for an even golden result?

Use an electric skillet or fryer, heat the oil to 370 degrees Fahrenheit, and fry the dough pieces until they puff and turn golden. Turning them as needed and avoiding overcrowding can help the pieces cook evenly.

What should I serve with hot beignets?

Dust the beignets with powdered sugar and serve them with coffee, milk, or cafe au lait. They also work well as the centerpiece of a New Orleans-inspired weekend breakfast or brunch.

Can I make these beignets in an electric skillet?

Yes. An electric skillet is the preferred cooking method for this mix. Add enough oil to fry the dough pieces at 370 degrees Fahrenheit, and cook them in batches if necessary so the oil temperature remains stable.

Can I use a deep fryer instead of an electric skillet?

Yes. Both an electric skillet and a fryer are compatible with the mix. Heat the oil to 370 degrees Fahrenheit and fry the beignets until puffy and golden.

What is included in the box, and what do I need to buy separately?

The package contains the Cafe Du Monde beignet mix. You will need water for the dough, cooking oil, a rolling pin, a cutting tool, and either an electric skillet or fryer. Powdered sugar and a coffee drink are optional serving suggestions.

Does this beignet mix contain milk or other common allergens?

Yes. The product contains enriched wheat flour, barley flour, and milk, with milk declared as an allergen. Anyone with a milk allergy or sensitivity should review the package information before preparing or serving the beignets.

How should the beignet mix be stored after opening?

Refrigerate the mix after opening and keep the package tightly resealed. Follow the storage guidance on the product label and use the mix within the recommended period.

What is the difference between a beignet mix and a pancake mix?

A beignet mix is made into a dough that is rolled, cut into squares, and fried, producing a crisp exterior and puffy center. Pancake mix is thinner and is usually cooked directly on a griddle or waffle iron.
